Have you ever thought that maybe the world would be better run by anything but humans? Well, before we go all Planet of the Apes, here’s a film that looks at life with some very advanced chimps!

In the first Space Chimps movie, Ham (Tom Kinney), Luna (Cheryl Hines) and Titan (Patrick Warburton) blasted off into space and flew through a wormhole where they helped save an alien civilisation from the wicked and mostly incomptetent Zartog (John DiMaggio). By the end of the movie Zartog makes his way to Earth and has been plotting his revenge since then.

Space Chimps 2 - Zartog Strikes Back

That’s where Space Chimps 2 picks up. Young chimpanzee Comet (Zack Shada) is longing to be taken seriously and hopes to travel with his friends on a mission to Planet Malgor. He’s longing to meet his friend Kilowatt (Laura Bailey) in person but when his name is crossed off the flight manifest he realises his dreams have been dashed.

Of course, what happens next is that he accidentally blasts off in the spaceship after sneaking on board and the next thing the little chimp knows is he’s travelling through space, into a wormhole and on his way to Malgor. Once he’s there all his dreams come true on the most magical and surreal planet but best of all is meeting little Kilowatt.

Meanwhile back on Earth, Titan accidentally gives Zartog Level 5 clearance at Mission Control where he goes on to reveal plans for the end of the word and planet Malgor, but none of the humans there understand him. When Comet gets news of Zartog’s plan he knows that he has to return home and save his friends and planet. With Kilowatt as his co-pilot, it might also be a chance for him to finally be taken seriously.

Space Chimps 2 - Zartog Strikes Back

There are some reall ycool scenes in the movie, like when Comet arrives on Malgor, as well as some funny ones when Zartog tries to make himself understood. Unlike most kids’ films, I found this one to be informative and it actually makes an effort to tell its young audience something about science, space and what life ‘out there’ could be like.

Although some of the jokes feel like they go on too long, Space Chimps 2 is made for kids, small ones and big ones, so if you like animated adventures with a hint of sci-fi then chances are you might like this.
