Directed by Edgar Wright and based on the on the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Scott Pilgrim is like one of those stories you’d tell your friends about the morning after the night before. The kind of story where you had the most epic fight ever or you met the girl of your dreams.
This is the world of Scott Pilgrim, a 22 year old jobless guy (Michael Cera) who plays bass guitarist for a garage band called Sex Bob-omb. After meeting Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead ), the girl of his dreams literally, he has to take on each of her 7 evil exes in a fight to the death if he really wants to be with her.
As Scott gets closer to Ramona, one by one her exes turn up to obliterate him, but amidst all of the showdowns and throw-downs you begin wonder where Scott gets all these powers from.

With that in mind we see the film as an exaggerated form of his actual reality filled with wonderfully realised visuals, extremely witty, fast-paced dialogue and enjoyable characters such as Wallace (Kieran Culkin), Scott’s irresistible gay best friend. There’s even a musical number and a really great soundtrack, all of which make Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World easily one of this year’s most underrated movies.
The UK DVD release has an extraordinary amount of special features. The 2 disc set contains the movie together with deleted scenes, audio commentaries, outtakes, making of and other featurettes, but what I enjoyed most of all was Scott Pilgrim vs. The Animation, a four minute animated short which focuses on Scott’s relationship with Kim Pine. Voiced by Michael Cera, Alison Pill, Mae Whitman and Jason Schwartzman it’s a great inclusion and makes me excited for more of Scott’s on-screen adventures in the future.
