Created by Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Matthew Senreich along with writers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root, Robot Chicken is a stop-motion animation television series which began in 2005 and is currently in its 5th season. Featuring sketches which poke fun at popular movies, television shows, music, news and culture, the show is filled with hilarious moments, obscene humour and memorable gags which are great fun to watch, especially with friends!

Having never seen the show before but heard lots about it, I was really interested when it arrived on my desk one morning for reviewing. I’ve long been a fan of Seth Green and the dry wit he brought to his characters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Austin Powers franchise, so I had an inkling of what kind of humour to expect with Robot Chicken. From the opening episode of Season 4, Dear Consumer, in which a little boy confronts Santa Claus after making the naughty list, the skit becomes a parody of Kill Bill.

The episodes and sketches are packed with imagination, humour, toy gore and fantastic action! One of my favourite sketches is when a family are admiring their Christmas tree. Another tree sneaks a peak through their window and exclaims in shock and horror:

“My wife!!! You killed her…and you decorated her!!!”

Featuring a host of guest stars including David Hasselhoff, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Nathan Fillion, Christian Slater, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Simon Pegg and James Marsden, Season 4 of Robot Chicken is definitely worth getting if you’re a fan of animation and black comedy. It’s definitely a DVD worth popping in the player when you have your friends over or you when just need a good laugh after a long day.
