Back in July, the Static Mass team were invited for a Saw Day by Lionsgate, funnily enough, it was on Friday 13th and despite the rain it was an awesome day! Kicking off at 9am at a central London hotel we had a chance to watch some exclusive 3D footage from the upcoming Saw 3D: The Final Chapter. Pulling on my 3D glasses, the clip showed Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes) making his way through Jigsaw’s labyrinth after sawing off his leg. In one of the most grotesque scenes I’ve witnessed on film, he presses the wound onto the hot steaming pipes in an attempt to stop the loss of blood and clot it.

Another scene we were shown takes place in a shop window. Two guys wake to find themselves bound to several sawing devices and hoisted above them is the girl they were both dating. As passers by gather, at first they believe it to be a promotional stunt, but when the machines start up, it becomes clear that it’s a life or death situation as each must decide who to kill to in order to stay alive. Remember what I said earlier about Dr. Gordon’s scene being one of the most grotesque scenes I’ve seen on film? I take that back, this one is! In full 3D effect there is full-on blood splatter and intestines coming at you while the saws churn away at the unlucky victim. At 9 in the morning, my hot jam croissant was steadily making its way back up.

Hopping on a coach and munching away sweets which were shaped like body parts, courtesy of Liongsgate, we then made our way to Thorpe Park for the rest of the day! I would be interviewing Dr. Gordon himself, Cary Elwes, in a room from the Saw Alive attraction (more on that exclusive interview during our Special Saw week). But my assistant Melissa would be the one going on the Saw Ride!

The ride boasts a nerve-shredding vertical drop of 100° from a staggering height of 100ft. Featuring situations from the films, riders face the ‘head chopper’ at the base of the huge freefall drop. The coaster hits between a massive 4.0 and 4.7G’s a total of six times throughout the course of the 100 second ride duration subjecting its passengers to a more extreme G-force experience than a space shuttle rocket launch!

So, how did Melissa fare? Did she survive? Check out Part 2 of our Saw 3D Special!

  1. Hi there. I’ve seen that same footage too, it’s the footage that was screened at Comic-Con and FrightFest (I was at FrightFest) and i’d like to ask what you personally thought of the public game.

I respect your opinion, i’m just curious as to what you thought of it coz imo, and the opinions of many others, it was very badly made in that footage (which is unedited).
